At Jackalberry Safaris we are passionate about providing independent travellers with quality safaris at affordable prices. Since 2007 we have been conducting tours to the South Luangwa National Park designed to suit travellers with modest budgets, but big dreams! Because we are a small company and wish to remain so, we conduct tours with a maximum of 12 guests. This means that all our clients receive a personalised safari experience, rather than getting 'lost in the crowd' which can sometimes happen at the larger lodges. At Jackalberry Safaris we have also worked hard to create unique safari itineraries that combine walking safaris, game drives, cultural activities, comfortable accommodation and delicious food, while also providing transfers to and from Chipata. Chipata is the capital of Zambia's Eastern Province and is regarded as 'the Gateway to South Luangwa'. In fact, all you have to do is hop on a bus to Chipata, spend the night at one of the town's comfortable lodges and the next day, you're on safari!

The South Luangwa National Park is one of Africa's best-kept secrets. Remote and wild, this 9050 square kilometres of pristine wilderness is home to some of the most varied and abundant wildlife the safari traveller could ever hope to find. Safaris have been conducted in the Luangwa Valley since the 1950s, when the legendary conservationist Norman Carr pioneered walking safaris in the park. Today, South Luangwa is fast gaining a reputation as one of the premium safari destinations on the continent. While the relative inaccessibility of the park has undoubtedly been its saviour, it has also meant that safaris to this destination have for years proved simply too expensive or too difficult for many travellers to undertake.
